lyrics

Ode to the road can’t be borrowed or sold
We couldn’t write this stuff even if we tried
But that’s ok you don’t have to
Because we’re coming round again
And that’s why we wrote this ode to the road

Disco balls and overalls
Doors at eight and its an empty hall
Ben and Clay are out there throwing the squidge
Jer can’t find the catering line
Joe says we’re never gonna check on time
The opening band’s stuck in traffic on the bridge

Chauncey likes to tell me that it’s not a real show
But I see Kidd and Betty down in the front row
The band won’t play ‘cuz the fridge is out of beer
The green room’s ‘bout a couple blocks away
Gar’s already there but he says there’s no way
But hey man my banjo sounds great in here

Chorus

Austin got lost in Las Vegas again
But you don’t have to gamble when you’re in a band
You’re already winning if you’re on the road with friends
Boss man says I’n not paying you to tune
You’ll leave here with a nickel if you don’t play soon
So we put in a show that he hoped would never end

The show is done and it’s day off eve
We got til four til the bus is gonna leave
There’s an old place where the locals hang around
Order what you want the labels picking up the tab
We can get it on in the back of the cab
That boys got a woman in every town

Chorus

We love it at the Fillmore and the Music Hall
The Earl in Atlanta and the Turf in St. Paul
The Exit The Basement The Roman Gott play em all
The Capitol stage where Jerry played
The Troubadour where dreams are made
Let’s get on the road real soon so we can play for you all

Chorus
